Hunter Museum of American Art
The Hunter Museum of American Art sits on a bluff above the Tennessee River in the Bluff View Art District of downtown Chattanooga. Its permanent collection spans American art from the early 1800s to the present, with works in painting, sculpture, photography, and studio glass. The museum occupies three connected buildings: a 1905 Classical Revival mansion, a 1975 addition, and a 2005 contemporary wing. Traveling exhibitions rotate throughout the year. The museum hosts opening events, member evenings, and community programs on a regular schedule. The outdoor terrace has a direct view of the river below. Admission is free on the first Thursday evening of each month. Ticket prices vary for special exhibitions.
